Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. Husbands. love you wives just as Christ loved the church"
Ephesians 5:22-25
These verses are a lightning rod to most women today.
When studying scripture, it should always be your first priority to put it into the time and context. If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times. .
So let’s take a closer look at what these verses mean.
First off, this is the requirement that the wife should submit to the husband.
Now, in our selective, self-centered mind, that requirement is all we see.
But the verse that precedes this, states that we should all submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21).
It seems to me that submissiveness (definition: willing to obey someone else) is something that in all aspects of our lives is sadly lacking.
Our pursuit of personal freedom is our default line of thinking, and this leads to our own spiritual 
decline, not only individually but as a country and ultimately the world, which Jesus, by being submissive to the Father, saved by the giving up of His spirit on the cross.
Submission is not individual.
It should be the universal condition of the church.
Secondly, the command is to submit to someone who loves them, not an ogre.
What is Love?
As we read in scripture
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith. It is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance.
Does that sound like a definition of Jesus?
Maybe it’s time to deepen your relationship first with the lover of your soul.
Or as Hebrews 12:2 states, “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”
Once we have learned to become submissive through Jesus and the Father, so we can then take these qualities and bring them into our lives and into interactions with every person that we touch, not only those we are intimate with–our wives, our husbands, and our children. It should be the great command of all Christians to love and to be submissive to somebody who loves you.
